7 Ups & 4 Downs from WWE Raw (5 May - Results & Review)
2. Hot Ending, But…
Hang tight for some praise for the main event, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Seth Rollins versus Jey Uso on Monday night.
The Raw main event was mostly a plodding, punch-heavy bout with Rollins moving at three-quarter speed to not outpace Jey, who at times looked like he was wrestling underwater. Things picked up in the latter third, but even then, a lot of the drama revolved around shortcuts of interference, run-ins and outside shenanigans rather than the match itself – which ended in yet another disqualification.
Worse, this was (as Michael Cole noted) the first World Heavyweight Championship title match on Raw in seven months, and it ended in a DQ. (The lesson for WWE here is to not book a bunch of disqualifications in less significant matches; you’ll get a lot more grace when it’s done in moderation.)
You have to listen to and acknowledge the noise in the building, plus give credit to the babyface forces forming. But you also can’t ignore the first 12-15 minutes of the main event segment because the final five was really good.
