7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (March 12)

3. Edge Appealing To The Real Jey Uso

Backstage segments in WWE rarely achieve anything beyond killing a few minutes of air time. Apparently, Edge and Jey Uso didn't get that memo, because they worked a gritty, real conversation that actually (shock and indeed horror) sounded like two human beings talking away from the cameras.

Edge asked why Jey is happy being a "second class citizen in his own family". Uso, playing his part to a tee, looked down at the floor and was almost shamed by the Canadian's words. Before long though, he was back in character and spewing forced garbage about Roman Reigns destroying Edge at 'Mania that even he didn't seem to believe.

That was extremely well done, folks.

The contrast between Edge trying to speak candidly and Jey cutting a wrasslin'-style promo was notable. These characters are so well-developed, and it's nice to know that there's way more to come before WWE reaches Tampa next month.
