DOWNS…

5. Nothing Compares To France

After back-to-back shows in Lyon, France, anything short of a sustained, deafening roar was always going to seem quiet. SmackDown and Backlash were defined by the overpowering volume of the crowds, which established a unique and fun atmosphere.

Monday night, Hartford, CT brought things crashing back to Earth, as they sat on their hands throughout large portions of the show. The fans came up at several points during matches and were lively for sustained parts of some contests, but they were inconsistent at best. They couldn’t even be bothered to do the Jey Uso cell phone Yeet wave that Lyon perfected in one night.

It was a disappointing comedown from the weekend’s shows, and the lack of noise definitely hurt a couple of matches that should have felt bigger and better than they came across on the television.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
