5. Jobber Death
Omos worked a simple squash match last night, defeating two hapless jobbers with relative ease, suggesting that despite appealing more to Vince McMahon's sensibilities than Triple H's, his demotion isn't imminent. Perhaps Hunter has ideas for how to present a traditional, lumbering pro wrestling giant effectively in this modern era, where even the big boys are sprightly and light-footed.
Nonetheless, Omos' struggle to find the intensity and impact demanded by his role continues. He is 7'3" but rarely feels it. Framed well during his ring entrance, any imposing qualities are washed away through his work, which lacks the pop, snap, and force of the great wrestling giants, even though he is larger than all of them.
This isn't Omos' fault, as he was thrown on television entirely too early (the 28-year-old had only six house show matches on his record before arriving on Raw). He remains a big, green work-in-progress - but watching big, green works-in-progress isn't always a lot of fun. Last night's handicap win was a reminder of that.
