5. The Sounds Of Silence

Every time someone crows about how Triple H has rebuilt the women’s division, people should take a second and listen to the sound of when some of these superstars come out to wrestle.

Monday night, Mia Yim and Piper Niven locked up as a follow-up to last week’s fatal four-way match… and the bout played out to a mostly silent crowd.

This isn’t a comment on the wrestlers, but an indictment on the booking. It’s not enough to bring these women (or any superstar) back to the company (or in Niven’s case, restore her original WWE name). There’s been no real character development for either woman, no real promo time, no story for either woman in the ring, backstage or anywhere on WWE programming. It’s impossible to relate or empathize with either woman, so the match plays out to mostly silence.

Until WWE starts treating these superstars like three-dimensional characters, nothing is going to change.
