7 Ups & 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 14)

4. Jumping The Shark

The Aleister Black segments jumped the shark this week, with the former NXT Champion saying next to nothing at all in this week's breathy, spooky diatribe.

With Bray Wyatt exploring new ground on Monday Night Raw, it's as if the writers have transferred his old rambling promos over to Black, who flicks open a thesaurus before going on air, grabs a couple of random words, and tries to sound brooding.

This week's was pure nonsense. He spoke on the difference between ambition and how people pursue goals, then claimed opponents were trying to get inside his head. Such ventures take them to places they don't like, or something, and Aleister "clothes his naked villainy in old, odd ends." Complete toot.

Giving up on the character this soon would be premature, so let's hope this was a misstep rather than the new norm.
