Had Matt Riddle lost the Fight Pit match at Extreme Rules, you’d have to believe that his push as a top-level guy would be over. You can’t call your shot in a match that heavily favors you after being beat down by the heel nonstop and then lose.

Thankfully for Riddle, he managed to submit Seth Rollins after a different kind of extreme match. There never had been a Fight Pit match on the main roster, and only two in NXT history. Turning this personal feud loose inside a steel structure where there was no escape and no pinfalls was a pretty good way to settle things, and they used the cage effectively without it becoming hackneyed or overdone.

In the end, Riddle managed to RKO Rollins on the raised platform, then hit a Broton to the ring below before tapping Seth out. It was a good, but not great, match that hopefully means both men will move on to different things now. This seemed pretty definitive.
