7 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0 (Nov 9)
Ups...
7. Gigi Attracts A Win, But Io Isn't Finished With Rose
Fresh off of dropping their titles to Toxic Attraction's Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne at Halloween Havoc, news broke of Io Shirai's partner Zoey Stark being struck down by a sudden injury that would keep her on the sidelines for a significant spell. So, an audible most definitely needed to be called and it appears said shift has now manifested itself in an unexpected first challenger for new NXT Women's Champion Mandy Rose.
Before we could get to what is surely on the horizon, though, first NXT 2.0 opted to throw the two potential sparring partners into a 6-woman bout, with the NXT Women's Tag Team Champions and the KC's (Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro) making up the numbers.
The match itself was fine. Carter and Catanzaro always offer some pretty unique offence, with the latter playing the beat up babyface effectively. Yet, it's still hard to escape the feeling of both Doling and Jayne feeling a touch green, with Jayne in particular fudging an attempt at a slick roll into the ring. Though it must be said that the red-haired Gigi has some serious potential to climb the card as an easily detestable heel.
The conclusion came when Jayne found herself distracted by the show's typical brand of "chaos" on the outside, opening the door for a Dolin modified neckbreaker for the TA win. This contest by no means settled a damn thing, however. Expect Io to continue hunting down Rose in the coming weeks, she didn't take the pin after all, and Kay Lee Ray's interaction with the unit before her match suggests she isn't too far away from stepping into the scene either. But it's hard to see how the KC's can justifiably lobby for a tag title bout after being put away so easily here in their return to this multi-coloured party.
