7 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Jan 30)

6. Sami Wins

Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn wrestled Jericho in a non-title match soon after The Kevin & Chris Show, and it was as good as you'd expect. Jericho has definitely lost a couple of steps in recent years, but he's far from over the hill, and more than capable of producing a good match when paired with a solid opponent. Sami, meanwhile, is as solid as it gets, and he looked great last night, pulling-off all kinds of big moves including a Moonsault from the barricade and a huge Tornado DDT.

A corner Xploder and a Helluva Kick secured the win for Zayn in just under 12 minutes, and he came-off looking suitably strong. Beating Seth Rollins was a nice rub for him last week, but it was refreshing to see him notch a clean victory over top-level competition for a change. It has been a while since Sami felt genuinely competitive, and performances like this will go a long way to re-establishing him in the wake of the Braun Strowman feud.

Sami's win should guarantee him a United States Title shot, and with Fastlane little over a month away, this could be our program through February. Sami and Jericho have clashed many times before, but the feud makes perfect sense at the moment, particularly if it gives Sami another chance to rub shoulders with the main eventers that Jericho surrounds himself with. Solid booking all-round, and a strong performance from both men.
