7 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (May 4th)

2. Sami Zayn Debuts

Whenever a wrestler makes his or her debut, you hope it is a memorable moment that makes a great first impression. For Sami Zayn, making your Raw debut by being introduced by Bret €œHitman€ Hart to face United State Champ John Cena in front of your hometown Montreal fans is about as big a debut as you can get. It basically checks every box, short of beating Cena in a major upset for the U.S. title. Zayn has long been ready for the big time, making a name for himself on the independent circuit as El Generico. When WWE signed him, the company made the somewhat questionable decision to unmask him, but it€™s turned out to be a brilliant move that has allowed Zayn to shine. Although Sami is set for an NXT Championship rematch against Kevin Owens in a couple weeks, it appears as though his days in the developmental territory are limited. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoRyHiAUJnA It€™s worth noting that it€™s only natural to have a gut reaction toward Cena beating Zayn and to feel that perhaps Sami should have upset the champ. However, Zayn€™s character is built on being the underdog. Coming out of the starting blocks and winning a major match like that would have put him in a €œnowhere to go but down€ spot. Zayn wowed the fans with his first official Raw match €“ the Blue Thunder Bomb and Torpedo DDT through the ring ropes were probably firsts for many fans €“ so he more than made a great first impression. Let€™s just hope every NXT superstar doesn€™t follow the path of almost beating John Cena in their first match.
