There was a very small window for the Ascension to emerge from their tag team match against the New Age Outlaws with an upward trajectory, and that was for them to demolish the Outlaws in less than two minutes, selling nothing along the way. But instead, we got a bout that had 45-year-old Road Dogg and 51-year-old Billy Gunn on offense for the majority of the time, with Konnor and Viktor only pulling out the win in the closing seconds. Fans had to know that the Ascensions dominance of NXT wouldnt automatically translate into running roughshod over WWEs tag team division. But its doubtful that anyone could have predicted the burial that has taken place, with the announcers and now legends getting their shots in on them. The Rumble tag match ended with the Ascension defeating what JBL called one of the greatest tag teams of all time, so thats something. But its going to be a difficult road for these two to navigate, and its doubtful WWE has the patience for them. (This is one instance where being proven wrong is welcome.)
