7 Ways AEW Can Improve Their Women's Division
2. Expand On Their Characters
At the very beginning of AEW’s journey as a promotion, the likes of Cody and the Bucks reassured us that AEW will be all about fleshed out characters and focused storytelling. It really is quite baffling how little they have applied either those of things to the women.
More on the storytelling deficiencies later, but for now let’s talk about the female wrestlers and their characters. AEW had a readymade platform when it came to this. Many of their women already had established personas and gimmicks through their time in the indies and elsewhere.
The likes of Britt Baker, Nyla Rose, Kris Statlander, Big Swole, Emi Sakura, Hikaru Shida, and more, all had defined characters that could have been put in feuds that made the best use of them. Unfortunately we got none of that.
AEW never really bothered to highlight any of these unique personality traits or tell us how they got them. You can’t expect fans to remember and fall in love with a performer if you make no effort at exploring their story and what brought them here. And trying to do so on auxiliary platforms such as Twitter or any of their five hundred YouTube channels is not really the way either - mostly because only a portion of the fanbase will actually be keeping themselves up to date on all those things.
