7 Ways WWE Can Book Free Agent John Cena

1. The Farewell Tour

Other than the man himself (and perhaps Nikki Bella), nobody knows how close John Cena is to retirement. His acting schedule suggests he’s already preparing for life outside the squared circle, however, and is in the process of attempting to recreate The Rock’s mainstream crossover success.

He’s 40 years old, but Cena hasn’t slowed down at all in the ring. Recent performances suggest he has a lot left in the tank, but there’s still the possibility that his career will come to an end sooner rather than later. Like Rocky before him, Cena no longer needs the sport to sustain his stardom, regardless of whether or not he makes it in the entertainment business, and he no longer owes WWE a thing, having operated as their franchise player for over a decade.

While it seems unlikely that Cena will step away within the next year, WWE could feasibly book his free agent run as something of a farewell tour. It would allow their top dog to compete in a series of high-level matches against stars from both brands, building up to one last stand with an opponent of his choosing at WrestleMania 34, and hopefully a less depressing "goodbye" than The Undertaker's earlier this year.
