7 Ways WWE Screwed Up At SummerSlam 2018

1. Roman Reigns STILL Doesn't Look Strong

WWE finally crowned Roman Reign as Universal Champion last night, but did so in a way that didn't present him as a winner at all.

'The Big Dog' was fortunate to dethrone Brock Lesnar. 'The Beast Incarnate' was too preoccupied with neutralising Braun Strowman and his Money In The Bank briefcase to focus on his challenger, and while he bludgeoned the monster with an F5 on the outside and several chairshots, Reigns had time to recover. Thus, Roman blasted Brock with a Spear as he slid back in, then scored a quick victory that was all about Lesnar screwing up, not his grand accomplishment.

While the finish keeps 'The Beast' protected, it devalues everything that has defined Reigns' chase over the past few months. Granted, his general character direction has been patchy lately, but WWE have undermined their entire post-WrestleMania narrative by having him triumph on luck alone. It is but another misstep in a career full of them.

WWE's follow-up is critical, and if they try to portray Reigns as an all-conquering, Superman-esque babyface on Raw tonight, they might as well burn their creative department to the ground.
