This rivalry occurred at the peak of Triple Hs stranglehold on the World Heavyweight Championship scene. Kevin Nash returned from injury to play peacemaker in the war between fellow Kliq members Triple H and Shawn Michaels, but was greeted with a kick to the nuts by The Cerebral Assassin. Their match at Judgment Day ended in DQ, before Nash powerbombed HHH through the announcers table (probably the Spanish one). Triple H retained the title at Insurrextion, in Newcastle, before Mick Foley was brought in as special guest referee for their Hell in a Cell battle at Bad Blood (without 1997s second d). Whilst the storyline made sense, most of their matches were unwatchable because of Nashs dodgy knees and HHHs slow, methodical style. It suited a Cell match, though, where weapons and blood can hide immobility. Nash began by using a variety of weapons against Triple H, who brought the sledgehammer out early. We soon saw a barbed wire two-by-four and a wooden crate, as HHH soon turned his attentions to Foley. The match then resembled a Triple Threat, as Foley brought out Mr Socko for a Mandible Claw. HHH bled excessively but beat Nash in a fairly clean manner, with his first Pedigree. A poor match compared to other Hell in a Cells, this still became the highpoint of the HHH-Nash feud and eventually transitioned to HHH-Goldberg following Summerslams Elimination Chamber.
