7 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The Week (July 30)

2. El Patron Murders LAX

Alberto El Patron LAX
GFW Impact

Well LAX, it’s been real. The coolest thing going in Impact was manhandled in a 3-on-1 gauntlet match by Alberto El Patron. Actually, it was 5-on-1 since both Konnan and Diamante got involved. There goes week's worth of storylines. You know, like Homicide vs. El Patron week one, Ortiz after that, then Santana.

This isn’t like El Patron taking out a stable of guys like Johnny B. Badd, Planet Stasiak, and Mo. He ran through a group who is way cooler than him.

No matter who is in charge of the company, the management team can't plan for the future in any meaningful way. In two years, El Patron is highly unlikely to be in GFW. The members of LAX will probably be there in some form. But now, they've just lost to a guy who is most recently well-remembered on a national level for being a background player in the League of Nations.

GFW already has a definite stink on it. If a casual fan tunes in and sees LAX, they'll see fresh, exciting wrestlers they've never seen before (well, besides Konnan, but he's cutting damn good promos). On the other side is El Patron, who is seen as a WWE castoff. No matter how much better he is now than he was in WWE, that's the perception he's carrying around. It's telling potential fans that once again WWE > TNA, even if the initials have changed.

To further the absurdity, after the massacre, the group recomposed themselves and beat up El Patron. They were then fought off by the Veterans of War. So they're likely building to some sort of 3-on-3 tag match. But one man just beat up all three opponents by himself! Feud over.

It was all so pointless and so horribly, horribly stupid.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
