7 Wrestlers WCW Gave Up On

3. Konnan

Much like his cosmological Max Moon gimmick had crashed on entry in WWE, Konnan's WCW push was cancelled before he'd even stepped in the ring.

After a brief, weeks-long stint in Georgia at the turn of the decade, the AAA and ECW star returned to WCW as part of the same talent drive that'd seen the likes of Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko try to play with the big boys. Only Konnan was originally slated to play with the biggest boy: Hulk Hogan.

That's according to the man himself, anyway. As Konnan tells the story, booker Kevin Sullivan promised that he and Hogan would contest a series of matches in the United States and Mexico, hence why the newcomer and the Hulkster posed for an unlikely belt-tugging promo shot. However, it obviously never transpired, with Konnan speculating that as soon as WCW found he could only work the Mexican style, they immediately lost interest.

That said, he still entered the company with a bang, claiming the United States Championship from One Man Gang within a week of his arrival. It just wasn't quite as loud a bang as he'd hoped.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
