Dan Severn is a legitimate combat legend, one of the first stars of the UFC and a two-time pro wrestling world champion. As NWA World Heavyweight Champion and UFC Superfight Heavyweight Champion in 1995, The Beast remains the only man to hold pro-wrestling and MMA world titles at the same time. Severn was a trailblazer - a really terrifying trailblazer.

He also had a brief run in the then-WWF, a one-year spell in '98/99 that came about during Vince McMahon's shoot fighting phase. Severn competed in the Brawl for All, withdrawing after defeating The Godfather in the first round. Severn left the WWF in 1999, after the company asked him to tattoo '666' on his forehead. Nope.

Severn's last televised appearance for the company came in the 1999 Royal Rumble, won by Vince McMahon of all people. Severn entered the match as the eighth entrant, failing to eliminate before being eliminated by Mabel, in the big man's final appearance under that moniker.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
