7 Wrestling World Champions Who Were Fired

Messiah was a turn-of-the-century deathmatch wrestler best known for his work in promotions like CZW and XPW, with the latter firing him while he was their World Heavyweight Champion.

XPW was a sleazeball organisation ran by pornographer Rob Black in tandem with his Extreme Associates adult film company. Messiah had become their biggest star by August 2001 and was set to team with Black against Sabu and Josh Lazie at the Damage Inc. event that month, though a vignette aired in which somebody pretending to be Messiah claimed he couldn't wrestle last night. It was immediately obvious that this wasn't him, so what happened?

The real Messiah was fired when Black found out he was having an affair with his wife, former adult film actress Lizzy Borden.

A public, personal feud between Black and Messiah boiled over when Messiah bought a ticket to XPW's Baptized in Blood III the following July. Messiah left when the crowd got too rowdy, though word had already reached his former promoter - who was fuming.

11 days later, Messiah was the victim of a home invasion that saw two men sever his thumb with a pair of garden sheers, before going after his other thumb and penis. The assailants fled when Messiah fought back and caused a commotion, leaving with the thumb. Later, police decreed the attack was pre-planned and possibly related to wrestling.

Messiah returned to the ring just four weeks later. Black was never named as a suspect.
