7 WWE Money In The Bank Winners That Flopped

2. John Cena

When John Cena won one of the Money in the Bank contracts in 2012 most fans groaned because Cena always gets title shots anyway, so he really didn't need the MITB briefcase to get another one. Since Cena is the nicest guy ever in terms of how he is booked in WWE, he didn't do a surprise challenge with the briefcase. He announced he would cash in on the historic July 23, 2012 episode of Raw aka Raw's 1000th show against CM Punk. The match was pretty average until Big Show showed up to interfere and cost Cena the match. It was all an angle to set up The Rock coming to the ring and CM Punk dropping him with the GTS to set up Punk's heel turn. Looking back on it, WWE could have set up Punk vs. Cena in a number of other ways without sacrificing a briefcase that could have been used on a cash-in attempt by somebody else. It was a historic moment in the sense that Cena was the first man to try to cash in and fail. Poor John Cena! Ha!
