Although Carmella had always been an entertaining addition to the act of Enzo Amore and Big Cass, it was unknown whether she would have much of a future on her own if and when they ever went their separate ways. Even when she went solo this summer once Enzo and Cass were called up to the main roster, she struggled to find her way.

That said, her promotion to SmackDown Live as the last overall pick in teh 2016 WWE Draft was a bit of a head-scratcher, if only because she wasn't all that good in the ring and her character development left a lot to be desired. In the matter of a month, however, she turned heel by targeting the recently returned Nikki Bella and only then did everything start to click for her.

It was apparent from the moment she debuted in NXT two years ago that she was born to be a baddie, so she settled into the role nicely almost immediately. Her mic skills have progressed tremendously throughout her feud with Nikki, whom she has beaten on several different occasions in the past few months.

No longer does she come off like the female version of Enzo; finally, she has established her own identity.
