8 Amazing Wrestlers That Flopped In WCW

7. Marty Jannetty

How Good He Was: It's a crying shame that Marty Jannetty is often used to describe a wrestler who fades into the background and flops whilst his tag-team partner goes on to bigger and better things. In-ring, Marty was every bit as good as Shawn Michaels when the pair ruled together as The Rockers, but he'd never translate that into singles success.

Substance abuse issues gripped Jannetty and wrecked his momentum any time it looked like things were on the up for him. That's his own doing, but few could deny how slick he was as a worker on his day. When sober/focused, Marty was a real asset to whichever promotion he happened to be working for.

Why He Flopped: 1998 was far too late in the day for Jannetty to succeed on WCW TV. He could still offer something between the ropes, but he was only hired to pad out the roster across various matches on Nitro, new show Thunder and established nostalgia-fest Saturday Night. Realistically, the bloom was off the rose for the former Intercontinental Champion by the time he signed on the dotted line.

A shoulder injury also held him back, and WCW quietly released Jannetty mid-recovery. That had to come as a hammer blow, because he must've been banking on a career reprieve following immense disappointments over in the WWF.

Had Marty signed a WCW deal in say...1994, things might've been different for him. Ultimately though, he just couldn't be trusted to steer clear of trouble. It followed him around like a black cloud, and thus his WCW run was nothing to get hyped about.
