8 Bad In-Ring Habits That John Cena Needs To Change

5. He Often Forgets That He's 'Injured'

John Cena matches, more often than not, follow a fairly rigid formula: he gets beaten down, comeback spot, more beatdown, comeback spot, five moves of doom, victory and cake. It's not the five moves of doom sequence itself that's so egregious (loads of superstars have their signatures sequences, Daniel Bryan, HBK, CM Punk all did) it's the fact that, when launching himself into his F.M.O.D. he often completely forgets that he's been beaten down at all. John Cena isn't a great seller at the best of times, but his inability to remember that, say, his ankle's been worked on all match, or his ribs, or his arm, makes fans resentful of his spectacular comeback, because everything that his opponent has done all match has been wasted. Every storyline injuries get forgotten about. For example, during Extreme Rules 2013, he faced Ryback in a Last Man Standing match. Prior to the bout, a big deal was made of Cena's ankle being injured by Ryback with a steel chair. 'How will John Cena survive a Last Man Standing match if he can barely stand' wept Michael Cole. When the match came around however, nothing. There was no injury to be seen. Cena certainly didn't sell one, anyway. Why bother telling stories at all, if the continuity goes out the window?
