8 Bad In-Ring Habits That Randy Orton Needs To Change

7. His Move-Set Desperately Needs Some New Additions

What are Orton's huge, crowd-popping moves? The RKO, the punt, the elevated DDT (sometimes), the backbreaker and the scoop slam. He has a few others, but they're mostly just strikes, like the setpiece where he stamps on all of someone's limbs. Alas, he barely uses his once-lauded standing drop-kick anymore. The moves in Randy Orton's repertoire are all almost a decade old and he shows very few signs of innovation. Say what you want about John Cena, but over the years he's tried out a bunch of new moves like hurricanranas, springboard stunners, weird neck breakers, powerbombs. Orton on the other hand, a lot of his match feel hollow in the middle because he doesn't have a wide enough variety of new moves to pique the crowd's interest. Orton has built a career off of his persona's unpredictable ruthlessness, but there's very little that's unpredictable about his in-ring offence. Sure, the RKO is always awesome and comes 'from outta nowhere' in any number of thrilling permutations, but that's just the match's finish. A lack of recognisable and thrilling mid-match moves severely hinders him and is one of the main reasons why fans get quickly turned off if he's paired with someone similarly undynamic.
