8 Best WWE Heel Turns (Where The Wrestler Changed Nothing)

1. Bret Hart

The heel turn of Bret Hart in 1997 is the stuff of legend.

Not only did Hart effortlessly turn into the biggest bad guy in the company, but the then-WWF also pulled the trigger on their hottest ever babyface - 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin - at the very same time.

For Hart though, the initial part of that heel turn saw nothing really change about his character.

Due to having been portrayed as the confident, self-assured Excellence of Execution for so many years, it was nothing new to hear Bret spout off about how he was the best wrestler on the planet. And likewise, the Hitman's in-ring work was always crisp, aggressive, and unrelenting on an opponent, and his offence was always about exploiting an opponent's weaknesses.

Simply put, the fans of the day had grown tired of the whiter-than-white babyface acts that they'd seen for so long. As such, Bret just kept on doing what he'd always done in a character and an in-ring sense.

Hart didn't change a thing about his act, it was just that the fans turned on him. But even then, Bret managed to pull off the genius act of still being a babyface in any other country other than the USA.
