The spring of 2002 brought about the first significant singles push for Edge, who WWE had targeted as one of its stars of the future for years before pulling the trigger and pairing him with Kurt Angle. Together, they wrestled a phenomenal match at Backlash and an even better one at Judgment Day. The latter was a Hair vs. Hair match, won by the Torontoan. Angle refused to let anyone see his bald head, wearing wigs and wrestling earmuffs to compete in. Angle, in the middle of his greatest year from an in-ring standpoint, turned in an outstanding performance from a wrestling and entertainment standpoint. Hulk Hogan's appearance late in the match, and the pulling off of Angle's wig, led to a molten hot finish in which Edge collected another huge victory over his established main event opponent.
