8 Big Questions About Vince McMahon's XFL Reboot!

2. Does It Have A TV Deal Already?

Vince Mcmahon Xfl
NBC

What possible reason could Vince McMahon have for entertaining the idea of fishing the XFL out of his attic of failed concepts and dusting it off for another go-around, beyond the obvious one regarding his senses on a one-way trip to the moon? Both his company and NBC reportedly lost $35m of their joint $100m investment in 2001, so it seems positively bananas, heck, positively pineapples to try to bring it back.

This seems to be the way we're headed, which rather suggests McMahon already has something in place for it, such as a lucrative, ad-revenue generating TV deal. Why else would the WWE honcho think the concept is viable? NFL ratings are down, and a gap is opening, but you don't become a billionaire making risky gambles on a hunch. Someone in WWE somewhere must be good with numbers (Tye Dillinger, perhaps), as there's no way the company would openly acknowledge the rumours, affecting their stock in the process, if they didn't have a sense of surety that it won't immediately eat into their capital.

Another suggestion is that it could be original content for the Network, but that plan is almost as barmy as reviving the XFL in the first place. So... maybe.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
