7. Bret Hart Vs. Mr. Perfect - 1991

In 1991, Bret Hart set his sights on the Intercontinental Championship held by Mr. Perfect. At the time, Hart was attempting to establish himself as a singles competitor, after previously being a member of the Hart Foundation along with Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. Mr. Perfect was already an all-time great, and was used to elevate Bret here. Although Perfect was beginning to suffer from the injury bug that would plague him for the rest of his career, he put off his recovery, specifically to help The Hitman as a personal favour. With both men being such talents inside the ring, we got a technical classic that overshadowed everything else on the card that night. The main event of Hogan/Warrior vs. Slaughter/Adnan/Mustafa, was child's play compared to Hart's IC title conquest. Furthermore, Bret was cemented as a star when he kicked out of the perfect plex, which no one ever did. The finish saw Bret reverse a leg drop into the sharpshooter, which blew the roof off the arena. During the contest, Perfect's gear was torn in half, and afterwards Bret kept a piece of it as a symbol of their battle. The Excellence of Execution would dominate the mid-card over the next calendar year and elevate the IC title to main event prestige.
