8 Brutally Short WWE Title Reigns That Don't Sit Well With Fans
1. Christian's World Heavyweight Championship Reign - 5 Days
At Extreme Rules 2011, Christian became World Champion in WWE after 16 years in the wrestling industry. It was a huge feel-good moment seeing Christian hold the title over his head, with the crowd and Edge cheering him on. Backstage, Christian hugged Vince McMahon with thanks for crowning him his top dog.
However, on the next SmackDown, Christian faced Randy Orton with the title at stake, and lost.
What irked fans about this was how Christian was holding a world title for the first time in his WWE career, and lost it so quickly to a man who already had his moment in the sun seven times previously. Furthermore, it felt like the right time for Christian to be champ, inheriting the title that his best friend had to vacate.
Christian won the strap back in a match that negated Orton's champion's advantage, but only held it for 28 days before losing it again. Christian was being portrayed as the heel throughout this feud, but it didn't feel right. He had scratched and clawed his way to the top after years of dedication, and was dethroned so quickly. How were we meant to boo him for that?
