8 Celebrities Who Deserve A Place In WWE Hall Of Fame
2. Andy Kaufman
Andy Kaufman was not everyone's cup of tea, as the outlandish comedian was known to deliberately antagonise people for the sake of comedy and often took his jokes too far. Still, his ability to invoke outrage and shock was perfect for wrestling. This became reality in his Women's wrestling stunt and rivalry with Jerry 'The King' Lawler, which led to a match where Kaufman was given "the piledriver heard around the world".
Kaufman dug his claws into the wrestling industry and refused to let go, despite the protestation of his managers and the general public. Being involved in this business damaged his public perception, but he didn't care as he saw it as a great opportunity to play "bad guy wrestler" and have fun with his audience.
Contrary to what was said in kayfabe, Jerry Lawler and Kaufman were good friends and worked the entire angle in partnership. Therefore, it would be touchingly poignant to see him finally honoured in the Hall of Fame and inducted by The King himself.
He helped to put wrestling on the mainstream map and deserves far more credit from WWE for what he did to the industry. WWE have never been shy about discussing the time he got slapped by Lawler on Letterman, so why not put him in the HOF?
