8 Early Predictions For WWE Backlash 2016
2. American Alpha Vs. The Usos
If ever proof was needed that titles bring purpose and direction to a roster, just look at this week’s SmackDown. The blue show’s tag scene was an uncoordinated mess prior to Tuesday night, but the tournament showcased two exciting first-round match-ups, and looks set to produce many move over the coming weeks.
The Usos and American Alpha are already through to the next round, with The Vaudevillains, Hype Bros, Heather Slater & Rhyno, and a TBC team still in-play. How will the rest of the tournament pan-out? The Vaudevillains vs. Hype Bros match is a coin toss, but Slater and Rhyno will almost certainly lose their first-round match, and it makes all the sense in the world to have the Usos and American Alpha contest the final.
The Usos still a pinfall from Alpha during SummerSlam’s 12-man tag team contest, so there’s already some tension between the two. Moreover, Jimmy and Jey are in dire need of a heel turn after stagnating as babyfaces a long time ago, and their stolen victory represents the turn’s first subtle hint.
Alpha and The Usos are the division’s two most credible teams, and given their track records, they’d surely put-on a great match together. Assuming this is the intended final, WWE will likely capitalise on Jason Jordan and Chad Gable’s growing popularity by putting those not-at-all-garish new belts around their waists.
