8 Embarrassing WWE Imposters

8. Eric Angle

WWE Network

It must be hard being Eric Angle. You're the older brother, who is also an amateur and professional wrestler, but you don't achieve 1/50th of the success of your little baby brother. That must sting a little bit. Eric didn't win a gold medal at the Olympics (with a broken freakin' neck), nor did he win the WWE Championship many times over. He wasn't a King of the Ring winner, either.

No, Eric spent most of the time his brother was climbing the ladder stuck on the bottom rung of the independents. But he did have one thing going for him: he looked a little bit like Kurt Angle. The WWF, sensing an opportunity, began to use Eric in some storylines. He took a vicious last ride from The Undertaker at the 2000 Survivor Series, allowing Kurt to sneak in and beat the Dead Man. Following this and his appearance on Raw the next night, WWF signed him to a developmental contract. Unfortunately he tore a ligament in his arm which required nine surgeries to correct, causing him to miss almost two years of action.

He toiled away in OVW for a few months before getting another call from WWE about making an appearance on television. They basically ran the same angle (pardon the pun) again, only this time with Brock Lesnar in place of The Undertaker: Eric switches with his brother, Kurt gets a cheap win, Lesnar beats up Eric the next week. Eric went back to developmental after his appearance and was released later in the year.
