8 Gimmick Matches You'll NEVER See In WWE Again

5. Eye For An Eye

Extreme Rules Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio Eye for an Eye

It can be an exhausting exercise for fans to intellectualise the sweet science of the squared circle. This can usually be done by pointing towards gripping storytelling, emotive promos and long-running stories with extensive lore to create iconic moments that will live on forever. Then there are moments that are so monumentally stupid that they feel as though they put us back to square one.

Enter the first (and only) 'Eye For An Eye' match.

During their pandemic-era feud, Seth Rollins attacked Rey Mysterio by driving his eye into the steel steps, therefore putting Rey out of action due to the masked hero being hurt in such a devastating manner. He also tried to do this to a "pre-Dirty" Dominik Mysterio. Rather than prevent Rollins' level of savagery, WWE instead sanctioned Rey's revenge mission and booked an 'Eye For An Eye' match for Extreme Rules 2020, in which the only way to win was to take out your opponent's eyes.

Where do we even begin with how daft this concept is? The match itself featured both men trying to use various implements and the corners of tables and ring steps to remove each other's eye from its socket. The brawl ended every bit as stupidly as you'd expect, with Rollins driving Mysterio's orbital area into the ring steps as the camera panned away.

Cue Seth recoiling and throwing up (literally) to sell the deviousness of his actions, before being declared the winner. This will not and should not ever happen again on grounds of extreme stupidity.
