8 Great Ideas TNA Gave Up On

3. Strict Time Limits

When TNA went from their weekly pay-per-view format to a regular show on Fox Sports Net, they received a lot of visual improvements on-air, but they also had one intriguing new upgrade: a clock on the screen that kept time of the match. It was a sports-like addition to the show, but one that added a sense of urgency to the matches.

Title matches had 30 minute time limits, while a regular match had 10. It helped reduce the amount of extended headlocks and armbars just for the sake of killing time, and made the final minute much more exciting than it usually would. It was also something that helped them stand out from WWE in a positive way.

However, when they made the move to Spike, they got rid of the clock and never looked back. Currently with the Grand Championship, we’re given three minute rounds, but that division has yet to catch on yet, so it may not be around for long. If TNA moves on in any form, bringing some sense of realism back to the show would be a nice touch. Or perhaps they'll continue going in the direction of a killer drone army.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
