8 Hidden Meanings Behind AEW All Out Attires

2. Lucha Brothers - Samurai Tradition

This is what the theatre of cosplaying should achieve.

On the surface, this was very much a modern pro wrestling trope; Pentagon and Fénix made their entrance to the ring dressed as samurais in what is a recognisable and classic 'warrior' get-up designed to convey a badass, gladiator aura. But there was to it, taking into account the full context of the match -and its result.

The samurai were warriors of premodern Japan, and were known for their extensive range of weapons. The Lucha Brothers used weapons excessively and gruesomely at All Out; they didn't employ bows and arrows, spears, and guns, but they did almost murder Matt Jackson by drilling him with a Canadian Destroyer through a table from the top of a ladder.

The attire foreshadowed the result; in successfully defending the AAA World Tag Team Championships, and climbing atop the AEW rankings, Pentagon and Fénix now, much like the samurai, make up the ruling military class of global tag team wrestling. Or perhaps, given Pentagon's look and Fenix's outrageously cool moves, they just though it looked nifty.

It did like.
