8 Huge WWE Battleground 2017 Predictions You Need To Know

2. Two Towers

A chronic disappointment in terms of expectations surrounding the respective returns of both men, the jingoistic flag match between John Cena and Rusev feels like a contest twenty years out of date and at least two past it's sell-by date.

Their lengthy series over the US Title in 2015 had all the same patriotic overtones, but was at least a fresh pairing at the time, with their good chemistry overwhelming the lazy and boring plot devices that came between them.

It's safe to expect much of the same here, with the duo likely to dazzle in the match itself despite a profound lack of stakes and importance in the match itself. John Cena will of course win, which perhaps is the only positive of the match being a complete footnote.

With 'The Champ' presumably pencilled in for something big at SummerSlam, this entire angle is likely to be completely forgotten by next Tuesday, allowing 'The Bulgarian Brute' the opportunity to move past the defeat and into something more akin to the original comeback chase for title glory that was abruptly dropped.

He may be short of his own significant angle in time for the summer spectacular, but a quick exit out of this one may at least salvage an otherwise lacklustre return.
