8 Live Observations From ROH/NJPW Global Wars PPV
1. Colt Cabana Vs. Jay Lethal For The ROH Title
Jay Lethal has been the ROH Champ for quite awhile now. I remember him being the main guy at the last show I went to. But the story here—at least at the start—was the huge sustained ovation Colt Cabana got in Chicago. It was so much fun to be a part of. It had to be a good two or three minutes of chanting his name before the match officially kicked off. Great stuff.
The match itself was actually very good. Cabana can wrestle. No question about it. And while the guys next to me didn’t believe he’d win because of how devoted he is to the independent scene as a whole, and not any one organization, what came next was unexpected—and frankly, kinda weird.
Instead of seeing the match to a proper finish, the Bullet Club interfered, and their newest member Adam Cole came out. When the lights went out and then came back on, many of us were giddy with excitement. How many WWE stars were recently let go? It could have been anyone, but it wound up being Cole.
Which is fine, but what followed was the Bucks and Cole superkicking the show to death.
Literally.
They superkicked everyone in sight, from the ref, to Cabana, to Lethal, to the announcers, to the cameramen, to security, to the Young Bucks DAD…it was bizarre.
And that’s pretty much how it ended. Which I found to be a little bit of a letdown.
After the show went off the air, the ref had to cut Jay Lethal from the ziptie that held him to the ring, and after that I don’t know because, well, parking matters folks.
