8 Match Star Ratings For AEW Full Gear

5. SCU Vs. Lucha Bros. Vs. Private Party - AEW World Tag Team Championship Match

A minor disappointment.

This failed to reach the giddy stratosphere of the Private Party Vs. Lucha Bros. semi-final because it never really settled on itself. The more traditional layout did a disservice to the dynamic, creating pacing issues and a structural mismatch. Private Party looked their greenest here, and that's worrying: the Lucha Bros. match was the most overtly exciting, but their win over the Young Bucks saw them at their post polished. This marked yet another regression.

This isn't a disservice to the work - every last talent worked incredibly (or stupidly) hard on the night - but Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky almost blended into the background of the story. Any match with Fénix operating in such jaw-dropping form can't be considered anything less than very good, but his tandem offence with Pentagon Jr. looked so convoluted that it bordered on the revealing. The ambition was there, but their work is usually far tighter.

Rough in spots, and not all that heated, the lack of atmosphere and the mask it provides couldn't propel this to the next level.

★★★½
