8 Match Star Ratings For AEW Revolution

6. Darby Allin Vs. Sammy Guevara

Jon Moxley
AEW

A blistering, hate-fuelled, über-dangerous sprint, this was an awesome maximise-your-minutes match that reflected how both men arrived at it.

They weren't given time - possibly as a result of Guevara's bothersome ankle - but they made astonishing use of it, as they had on Dynamite to get themselves over as the two breakthrough stars of a competitive midcard.

Reviewing a show so soon after viewing it often results in recency bias, but Darby Allin definitely hit the greatest suicide dive of all time to kickstart a scorching sequence fought before the bell rang. He botched the follow-up, but it didn't matter; it felt in-character, and Sammy threw a skateboard in his face immediately afterwards, anyway. The match benefitted from it. Sammy capitalised by - Jesus Christ - smashing Allin through a table with a 630 senton.

When the match formally started, Allin kicked out of the resulting pin attempt to fight from underneath, as Guevara creatively targeted his injured throat in a match that intersected the spot-fest and the story. Allin secured the win in blinding, turnabout-is-fair-play fashion by monkey flipping Guevara neck-first into the exposed turnbuckle. Clever, faithful work germane to the story that was so exciting some will claim otherwise. It can be both.

This was.

This f*cked.
