By 1999, WWE had successfully maintained Kane's image as a terrifying, destructive monster, capable of flying into a rage and taking out anyone. Then, the baffling decision was made to give him an onscreen girlfriend in the form of Tori. X-Pac, having turned on former tag partner Kane to join the reforming DX, soon attempted to win over Tori - although she seemed to remain loyal to the Big Red Machine throughout the storyline. If you've been paying attention so far, you can see where this is going... In early 2000, Kane was ambushed and subdued in the ring by DX. Tori then revealed herself to be X-Pac's new girlfriend, bringing a merciful end to a predictable, potential-limiting storyline.
