8 Most Underutilized TNA Wrestlers

2. Abyss

Abyss is actually the most relevant he’s been in years right now with Decay, but in terms of TNA lore, the man should be treated with a bit more reverence.

He was on the company's first weekly pay-per-view taping, and has been with them nearly ever since. He’s a former Heavyweight Champion and he’s taken more crazy beatings than anyone else on the roster during that time. It’s likely not even close. So at this stage in his career, pinning him should mean something. Right now, though, it doesn’t at all.

When Undertaker was wrestling full-time on TV about a decade ago, the announcers treated him like he was special, because of his storied history with the company. Now Taker has been protected far better than Abyss over the years, and overall WWE has been immensely more successful than TNA, but on-air, they should make The Monster their version of a legend. He's really the only one in the company capable of playing that role right one.

He shouldn’t just be showing up every week in tag matches and usually coming up short. Save him for big fights, and only put a few top, upcoming names over him. The dude is pretty beat up, so they should start transitioning Abyss over into a new role at this phase of his career, one that will likely be much more effective for him and TNA at this point.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
