8 Real Reactions Of WCW Wrestlers Being Punished On Air
5. Pillman Begs Forgiveness After Blow Up
There isn't exactly a punishment here, but there's certainly a lot of angry remonstrance.
By the turn of 1996, Brian Pillman was well and truly entrenched in his 'Loose Cannon' persona, having swapped his clean-cut, tiger striped babyface deal for an erratic, unpredictable character which had even his colleagues on edge. And with good reason: Flyin' Brian would often intentionally go 'off-script', so keen was he to pull the wool over everybody's eyes.
Pulling Bobby Heenan's jacket over the announcer's eyes during his Clash of the Champions XXXII battle with Eddie Guerrero was one such example of Pillman's unsanctioned antics raising the ire of his workmates. All WCW wrestlers were under strict instruction not to get physical with 'The Brain', who was still suffering from a broken neck endured over ten years prior. Heenan was understandably livid when Pillman grabbed his nape, turning the air blue by shouting, "what the f*ck are you doing?" before walking off set.
Back in the ring, Eddie Guerrero was visibly pissed off with his carefree and careless opponent, angrily mouthing whilst motioning to Heenan. Though the commentator eventually returned to the desk, the match had entirely broken down. Brian tried his best to stay in character whilst placating Heenan, before offering Guerrero a handshake. Eddie accepted it - and then stiffed him with a couple of nasty chops for his impertinence. A few moments later, Pillman gave him the receipt.
