8 Real Reactions Of WCW Wrestlers Being Punished On Air

3. Eddie's Cup Of Coffee

Eddie Guerrero's ultimate on-air response to Eric Bischoff's backstage claim - interpreting for Hulk Hogan - that he needed guys who put "asses on seats" was to tell him to shove it the job up his own.

In August '98, the two had apparently engaged in a fervent encounter behind the curtain, with Eddie demanding to know why a man of his considerable and obvious talent was not further up WCW's pecking order. This is where apocrypha steps in to suggest that a ticked off Bischoff threw hot coffee all over Latino Heat. Both men were left steaming.

An assault in any other line of work became an angle on Nitro, as a casual Guerrero (t-shirt, cut-off jorts) with luggage in tow came to ring to cut a withering promo on his boss. In something like a prototypical, mid-card pipebomb, Eddie lambasted Bischoff for a lack of opportunities in favour of "people you pay a lot of money to", before finally quitting the company to preserve his dignity. To punctuate his tirade, Guerrero doused himself with coffee - to save Eric the job of doing it himself.

Naturally, the whole speech was planned (well, probably: WCW generally had no clue what its mid-tier stars were up to on Nitro at this point). However, it was nevertheless an artful, if artificial, reaction to a very real dressing down.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
