8 Reasons Bret Hart Deserved To Be Screwed At Survivor Series 1997

8. Bret Couldn't Get Along With Shawn Michaels; Vice Versa

Shawn Michaels may go down in wrestling history as one of the most intriguing figures to ever step inside the squared circle. Over the course of the mid to late 90's, "The Heartbreak Kid" gimmick started to gain a lot of momentum and the singles push of Shawn Michaels was in full stride. However, this coincided with a mega main event push for Bret "The Hitman" Hart. Natural rivals and oppositions, Bret and Shawn were booked together in a variety of matches and had undeniable chemistry. With that came professional jealousy; not much different from natural feuds form the past like Dusty Rhodes vs. Ric Flair & Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage. With WrestleMania 12 approaching, Bret realised that Shawn Michaels was being poised to take his spot as the face of WWE. When Shawn won the match at WrestleMania 12, Bret started to see HBK's apparent "true colours" as disrespect started to come to the surface. The professional rivalry started to turn personal and Bret just couldn't seem to get along with Shawn and vice versa. Bret would talk down Shawn's manliness while Shawn made mention of Bret's rumored promiscuity with the "Sunny Days" comment on Raw. Shawn refused to return the Mania 12 favour and put Bret Hart over in any way, shape or form. And Bret refused to do the same, which ultimately led to "The Montreal Screwjob."
