8 Reasons Why MMA Fans Shouldn't Make Fun Of Wrestling
6. Before There Was "Rowdy" Ronda, There Was "Rowdy" Roddy
Of course, when you talk about MMA fighters who are big wrestling fans, you don't have to look any further than Ronda Rousey. Without question, she's the biggest fan of them all and wears her fandom proudly on her sleeve. Even her nickname of "Rowdy" was borrowed from her all time favorite wrestler, the late great "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (Rousey even called Piper personally to ask for his blessing to use the name. He gave it without hesitation). She also took her posse of MMA trainers and fighters (Marina Shafir, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke) and dubbed them "The Four Horsewomen" in tribute to Flair's Hall of Fame faction. She's been seen in the crowd of many wrestling shows (from WWE Monday Night Raw to most recently at a local PWG show), and nobody will ever forget the night she actually stepped onto the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania 31 alongside The Rock, hip tossing Triple H and catching Stephanie McMahon in an armbar to the delight of the live Santa Clara crowd. There has long been talk of Rousey working a larger angle or even a match at some point in WWE, which ironically would be a dream come true for the most famous female MMA fighter on the planet.
