8 Reasons Why Today's WWE Raw Is WCW In Disguise
7. The Cruiserweight Division
Another notable aspect of Monday Night Raw—and a relatively new addition to the mix—is the recent return of the Cruiserweight division.
After the success of last summer’s Cruiserweight Classic tournament, the company gave the newly-revived Cruiserweight Championship a more permanent home on Monday nights. And although a similar belt has been seen in WWE before, even then the inspiration had initially come from down south.
Also, it’s not just a case of the Cruiserweights being back on weekly television - it’s the fact that they’re starting to become one of the highlights of the entire show, just like the old days of WCW.
Jack Gallagher challenged Neville for the Cruiserweight title in arguably the match of the night at Fastlane. On the following Raw, the champion then defended his title against Rich Swann in another top-notch showing.
Granted, the standard in today’s division isn’t quite at the level of an Eddy Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio from Halloween Havoc 1997 - but Neville and company certainly look to be heading in the right direction.
