When All Elite Wrestling started, it was the new great hope that would right all the wrongs in the world of professional wrestling. One of those things that got a lot of attention, was how they would look after their women’s division. Brandi Rhodes proudly announced women would receive the same pay as men for occupying similar positions on the card and we all thought the ladies of AEW were going to set our screens on fire (and not in the way Kane used to).

Fast forward to near the end of the year, it hasn’t been the case. The reason these girls can’t kick as much ass is because they are hardly in the ring. Most shows have featured only the one obligatory women’s title match and even Riho, despite being the champ, has not appeared on every episode.

This was best (or worst) summed up at Full Gear where the Britt Baker vs. Bea Priestley match could not even make it on to the main card, despite having so much history and build up. The fact that a hurriedly put together match between Joey Janela and Shawn Spears was deemed superior only further underlines the problem.

All this is not to say AEW hates its women - that's almost certainly is not the case - but the first few months of its existence has simply not seen the best utilization of a talented female roster. With so much spotlight on the women’s evolution in wrestling these days, it is one area AEW need to catch up on, if they are to elevate their product further.
