8 Things AEW Need To Do To Reach The Next Level
4. More In-Depth Character Introductions
A show becomes popular only if the audience falls in love with the characters. The reason RAW used to do ratings of four, five, six million or even more at the start of the millennium, is because there were beloved faces people tuned in each week to see.
Everyone wanted to know what chaos Stone Cold was
going to inflict upon the establishment, or how badly The Rock was going to
destroy someone with his words, and so on. If Dynamite has to catch
the winds of mainstream popularity, then it has to position those faces, those
personalities that can propel them into the television big leagues.
For now, they
have their established stars who draw loud reactions week in, week out. But
their characters and motives were already well known. For the rest, including
those famous in the indies but not so much to the casuals, there hasn’t been much
of a light shone on who they are or why are they doing what they are doing.
Why does Jungle Boy pretend to be Tarzan? Why did Nyla Rose decide to
exert her might in AEW? Why is Luchasaurus a, dinosaur who does lucha stuff? People will pay more attention to these people if you stir up intrigue by
exploring their backstories and motivations. And then, when they are doing their
stuff in the ring or on a mic, it will have a far better impact on those
watching as opposed to now where all we know is they put on weird gear and
fight people for money.
