8 Things Lucha Underground Did Better Than WWE

6. Passionate Announcing

Lucha Underground received plenty of criticism throughout its three seasons, and the announce team bore the brunt of it. Matt Striker and Vampiro were as hit and miss as a commentary duo could possibly be, and most of that was because of the former. Striker could be every bit as fantastic as he could be embarrassing.

Whether they were making frustrating calls or telling the story perfectly, the one thing you can’t accuse Striker and Vampiro of lacking is passion. The two were 100% into what was happening on the show at all times. The emotion of the stories always came through in their announcing - both men sounded like genuine fans of the product.

Compare that to the robotic performances WWE fans from Michael Cole week after week, or the confused dementia of Booker T. WWE’s announcers sound like they have been previously programmed to spout buzzwords and catchphrases, as opposed to fans of the product they get to describe every week.
