8 Things Lucha Underground Did Better Than WWE

4. Using The Entire Roster

Lucha Underground had a star-filled roster, a collection of talent that top to bottom was as good as any other in the world. Despite only having an hour of television to play with, the promotion created stories and characters for almost all of the performers in the show. This was clear at Ultima Lucha Tres; 34 performers in the four part extravaganza, and all 34 were given moments to shine. Nobody was forgotten.

WWE is the greatest example of too many cooks spoiling a broth. The biggest professional wrestling promotion on the planet produces at least eight hours of original in-ring content every single week, a mass of shows that are constructed by a huge team of writers. These writers have the most talented roster in company history to work with.

Despite this, WWE only seems capable of focusing on a small number of top stars at any time. There is absolutely no excuse - WWE should be able to create a roster of well-rounded characters who are always active and are involved on a weekly basis. Lucha Underground utilised its entire roster to create a show from top to bottom, whilst WWE gets lost somewhere in the upper side of the middle.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
